Jessica Jone - Principal and Artistic Director

Jessica was born in Vancouver, and received her early dance training from her mother, Lorita Leung.  She received her professional training in Chinese classical and folk dance at the Beijing Dance Academy and the Guangdong Dance School in China, and is also a graduate of the contemporary dance program at Simon Fraser University.  Jessica is an accomplished dancer and seasoned performer who has won many awards for performance and choreography, including the Chairman’sAward at the Fourth Tao Li Competition in Beijing, Highest Score and Most Promising Dancer Award and two Best Choreography Awards at the North American Chinese Dance Competition.

Jessica is a co-founder of the cross-cultural contemporary dance company, Moving Dragon.  She is also a much sought-after Chinese dance educator who has taught master classes at the American Chinese Arts Society in Boston, Simon Fraser University, the Dancers Transition Resource Centre, the Canadian Dance Teachers Association, Goh Ballet Academy and the Dance Centre.  In 2011, she became Canada’s first Senior Instructor of the Beijing Dance Academy Chinese Dance Examination Syllabus.  In 2012, the City of Vancouver’s Parks and Recreation Board named Jessica as one of its Remarkable Women in the field of arts and culture.  In 2015, Jessica became Canada’s first qualified teacher in the new CDES Level 13, the graduating performance level of the syllabus.
